01/01: Rebooting for the New Year

I've mentioned before that Facebook has eaten up most (ok all) my blogging focus. Some people have complained about that (Thanks, Abby). One of my resolutions for the year is to get to blogging again. Of course, this will mean I need to get reaquainted with my own web site. lol Man, a lot of the pages are OLD. Circa-learning HTML eight years ago. I don't know if I have it in me for a redesign, though. Maybe that can be one of next year's resolutions.

It's been an odd, okay bad, couple of weeks. I showed up on the scene in Richland Center with my mom obviously weakened by an MS attack. It's been awhile since I saw her in the midst of one, so it served to remind me that this disease really is relentless. During the early morning hours before Christmas day, she spent most of it in the bathroom or trying to get to or from it from her bedroom which is about five feet away. It wasn't pretty, folks. The next day she opted out of going to the family party, not wanting anyone to catch the flu she obviously had. Upon my return, it became clear that she couldn't stay home. She couldn't move from her bed and I am not strong enough to help. She eventually collapsed to the floor and I talked her into letting me call 911. Once they finally got her out and to the hospital, they discovered that on top of the MS attack, on top of the flu, she also had a UTI. They admitted her around 7 that night and I went home so she could get some rest.

The next day I went to visit and in the afternoon didn't feel quite right: mostly I was just really tired. Went and visited again later in the evening and even started towards Hochunk when I left...I got about 20 miles out of town and started to think about what I would do if I got there and didn't feel any better (by this time I was starting to feel a bit nautious). I turned the car around and barely made it home in time to start my fight with the flu bug. I was awakened about every 20-40 minutes from about 10 pm to 8 am. I can't remember the last time I've been that sick!!

Mom came home the next day and then I returned to Seattle on Monday. So, this Christmas went down as pretty much the worst one ever. We didn't get to do anything that we usually do, other than a trip to Walmart the first day that I was there. lol Next year should feel like paradise in comparison.

Then, to add insult upon injury, I read on Facebook that an ex of mine is getting married. It was fairly shocking...not because I didn't know he already had a "live in lover" as I like to call her, lol, or that I was holding out some secret hope that he would want to get together (um, no) but because he pretty much swore to me when he broke up with me (on my birthday several years ago) that he never wanted to get married again and that part of the reason he was breaking up with me was because he knew that I wanted to, blah blah blah. So, all this did was make me feel like really I am unmarriable. Not good enough. Sigh. It doesn't help that my current boyfriend is out of the country. And isn't back until after New Years.

So, here I am on New Year's Eve, blogging, knitting, playing piano, cleaning. Alone. Again. May 2010 be way better than the end of 2009 was. Seriously.
